Kent School is among the most widely known co-educational private schools located in Kent in Connecticut, United States. Kent School dates back to 1906 when it was established by Reverend Fredrick Herbert Sill of the Episcopal Church. This school has students from all over the USA along with 30 other foreign countries. This school provides a curriculum which involves both academics and sports and gives equal importance to both these fields.
Kent School is among the members of the Founders League and competes in 32 varsity sports categories. The institution has 22 interscholastic sports and 56 interscholastic teams. Kent School has an established rowing team known as the Kent School Boat Club. This club was founded in 1922 and it has three varsity boats. The fourth boat participates in varsity boat races. They have been consistent in their success in this particular sport and have won five times during their participation at Henley. The Kent Girls Crew was founded in 1973 and this team too continues to be as successful as its counterpart. The schools arch rival in sports would be the Loomis Chaffe School. Their traditional rivalry culminates every year in the annual Kent V/S Loomis day where both schools participate in a numbers of sports challenges. Kent School has a very good football team which has been the undisputed leader for six consecutive years in this challenge. The Kent school football team is also among the first private American schools that will play internationally in the fall. They have been invited and sponsored by Global Football which is affiliated to the NFL. The Kent Football team shall compete against the Danish National Junior Squad in an event that is to take place in London in a initiative to promote football.
Almost all of the success that Kent School has got in their athletic endeavors can be attributed to its excellent coaches. The majority of the coaches stay on campus and have more opportunities of interacting with students. This familiarity helps the coach to develop coaching methods keeping students in mind. The school has great training facilities both for indoor and outdoor sports and a state of the art fitness centre. These facilities include 13 outdoor tennis courts, 13 playing fields, a cross-country running course, a 25 yard, six lane, diving swimming pool, squash courts etc. To add to this is the 1200acre campus that includes the Appalachian Trail.
